This financial year has set a record for mergers and acquisitions (M&As) in India, with deals worth $61 billion—more than double the value of transactions last year. In 2015-16, M&A deals were worth $28 billion.
During the boom period, many companies in sectors like real estate, power, infrastructure expanded their business by borrowing heavily. Companies got funding from banks at cheaper rates, private investors pumped in money in the business and foreign investors, too, bought their greenbacks.
